That's all for now. JIAYOU FOR FOA! (:
XY
Dear NYCO,
PLEASE practice at home! By the way, we have to
memorise our scores, so that should be a good reason to practice. (:
COUNTDOWN: 3 DAZUS TO FOA PERFORMANCE!
Hi NYCO,
A quick update:
1) Well-being checkPlease inform your SLs if you are feeling unwell and/or displaying flu-like symptoms. If so, please stay at home and you are advised not to attend the GECO concert for hygiene reasons. Be considerate and wear a mask if you must leave the house. (:
2) CCA next week cancelled
CCA activities are not allowed to be conducted next week, despite continuation of lessons. (This doesn't make sense to me but ah well. -__-)
However the Aesthetics Dept is still trying to get FOA gala performance to be on 11 July or a few days later, so we'll have either one or ZERO practices with Mrs Ee till then.
SO IN THE MEANTIME, PLEASE PRACTICE AT HOME! Mrs Ee has said Qing Dian is not ready but if everyone practices at home it will be better!
Ok that's all for now. Please spread the message to your friends! Take care and live healthy people! Thanks!
XY
Hi NYCO,
Please note that all CCA and FOA practices this week are
CANCELLED due to H1N1 threat in our school. Please help to spread the message!
Our FOA auditorium practice will be rescheduled. In the meantime, do take care of yourselves!
XY

Thanks for cooperating on collating travel plans! (: Do remember to take care of yourselves! Don't spend the last 2 weeks of your precious holidays being ill /:
Anyway, something less depressing and more exciting than H1N1!
The 2009 Committee Elections are coming up! :DNow, you might think, "Pff, committee elections, how am
I involved?" So this post is supposed to provide some insight. Heh.
Well, to take on a more serious tone, the annual committee elections is an important major event for NYCO. Simply put, the NYCO committee is a group of student leaders nominated by the CO to serve and lead the orchestra. It is a recognised leadership platform, so committee members are given opportunities to develop their leadership talents and skills. For example, our CO camps, Sec 1 orientations, celebrations and much of the administrative work is handled by our own committee members. Next year, the committee will be handling the major task of organising our biennial concert!
So all Sec 2s and 3s who are interested are encouraged to run for a post! Soon, we will have a voting session where you can nominate anyone (including yourself) anonymously.
Here's a brief description of all the posts:
President (Sec 3) & Vice-President 1 (Sec 3)The president, of course, is the main source of administrative support of the whole committee. She should have ample organisation skills and be an effective leader. The VP1 provides the president support and should be equally capable. Both president and VP1 will often work with the teachers in charge, committee and CO, so good communication skills are a must. Neither should be too involved in external commitments as these 2 roles can be time-consuming (i.e. you should have enough time to spend on school work, CO, your hobbies and yourself).
Vice-President 2 (Sec 2)The VP2 is the president understudy. She will be learn the essentials to leading a CO well through various leadership opportunities.
Secretary (Sec 3) & Assistant Secretary (Sec 2)The secretaries play a vital role in our CO! They are responsible for taking attendance during daily practices, recording meeting minutes and many other administrative duties. These posts can prove to be very demanding, so our secretaries have to be really on-task and efficient.
Treasurer (Sec 2 or 3)The treasurer also plays an important role! Money is a big responsibility, especially for a CCA with so many people. Of course, she is in charge of the CO funds and is responsible for collecting money (e.g. for food, SYF photos, etc). The treasurer has to be clear-headed and very precise in what she does.
Manager of General Affairs (Sec 2 or 3)The MGA is mainly in charge of the CO's logistical and welfare needs. In other words, she has to make sure that we have food to eat, uniforms to wear and proper chairs, music stands and practice venues to use! (This includes taking care of cleanliness...) The MGA should be a consistent person who is meticulous with her work.
Scores in-charge (2 people, Sec 2 or 3)This is also a challenging post! The scores you receive every time we begin on a new piece are prepared by our scores in-charge! The CO library (in the tuning room, if you didn't know) is also organised by the scores in-charge. It's hard work to get all of the part scores copied out and printed for everyone, so you'll need some stamina to take up this post. Being able to read stave notation (五线谱) and transpose is also a plus.
Section Leaders (1 for each section + 1 ASL for Xianyue)The section leaders are one of the most important roles in the CO! They oversee the administrative matters of the section, as well as their section's techinical performance and welfare. SLs should be able to positively influence their sections and promote bonding among sections. (:
Student Conductor
The student conductor oversees the musical performance of the orchestra when our conductor is not around (e.g. conducting for open house, orientations etc). She is usually selected by Mrs Ee, but if you're interested, you could nominate yourself too.
Okay that's all! (What a long post...) Do consider running for comm! (: All the best!
Cheers,
XY

Hi everyone! NYCO’s Secondary 1 Orientation is back again! This is an annually-held event organised by the Secondary 3 committee members of NYCO as well as the Secondary 2 members. It will be held on
11 June 2009 (this coming Thursday). (: It is a
COMPULSORY event (:
This event is very important to all of us in the NYCO family ^^ It not only creates a strong bond among members of NYCO, but more importantly, it introduces NYCO as a fun and exciting CCA to our Secondary 1 members! The NYCO Secondary 1 Orientation is a kick-start for the Secondary 1 members as official members of the “Unconventional Orchestra” – Not Your Conventional Orchestra (NYCO) xD and also to welcome them!
